Extruded and Cast Acrylic
Acrylic is manufactured via two different methods: extruded and cast. Each type of acrylic sheet lends itself to different applications. Depending on the nature of your project, we can recommend the best acrylic sheets to use.
Cast Acrylic
Cast acrylic is produced by pumping liquid MMA (methyl methacrylate monomer) into a mould that is usually made from glass. Following this, the mould is submerged into a specialist water tank where it is left to cool. The resulting product is a rigid sheet of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).
Generally speaking, extruded sheets are less malleable than cast acrylic, meaning that cast acrylic is better for use in projects that require line bending or form draping. We have cast acrylic sheets in over 30 different colours including clear and opal. We offer 13 different sheet sizes in 2mm to 50mm thickness. Our cast acrylic sheet sizes include:
- 3050 x 2050mm
- 2440 x 1220mm
- 2440 x 1830mm
Extruded Acrylic
Extruded acrylic is produced via an extrusion barrel which melts the pellets ready for forming. The liquid acrylic is then processed and passed through cooling rollers. The rollers can achieve both a smooth or embossed finish depending on your requirements.
We can use extruded acrylic in clear, opals, black, silicone glass, anti-reflective and high impact options. Our extruded acrylic is available in a number of colours and tints. Sheet sizes include sheet widths of up to 2050mm and a variety of lengths, although 3050mm is the standard length. Extruded acrylic sheets offer the following advantages:
- Outstanding weather resistance
- Impressive transparency with a light transmission of 92%
- Higher impact strength than glass
- Excellent surface finish in gloss or satin
- Easy to machine, fabricate and thermoform
- Resistance to dilute acids and alkalis
Greencast®
Greencast® is an innovative acrylic produced by Madreperla. It is manufactured from 100% recycled acrylic and provides the ideal environmentally friendly solution for eco-conscious enterprises. Colours include clear, white and opals, however, it is not available in black.
Metallic Acrylic
We can fabricate acrylic products from a wide range of thermoformable metallic acrylic. There are four different grade options available including standard, matt on one side, IRO (ideal for external use) and Idris or Pearlescent range. Available in a wide range of colours such as black, copper and titanium, our metallic acrylics provide excellent possibilities for designers looking to create eye-catching signage and displays.
